SAS EuroBonus reaches 8m members

SAS announced (19-Nov-2024) EuroBonus reached eight million members, since its launch in 1992. Redeeming points for bonus trips remains the most popular way to use the rewards, followed by flight upgrades. Over two thirds of members are based in Scandinavia, with Norway and Sweden accounting for more than half of the total members. SAS reported a surge of younger members in EuroBonus, with age groups 19-29 and 30-39 leading new sign-ups. While business travellers have historically accounted for a large part of EuroBonus, SAS noted a shift toward leisure travel, particularly among younger generations, which it stated reflects changing travel trends as younger Scandinavians seek journeys where travellers opt for less visited destinations. Emirates Airline joined (18-Nov-2024) the 'Move to -15C' global coalition, which aims to redefine frozen food temperature standards and reduce energy consumption in the frozen food supply chain. The coalition will explore the real-world implementation of research through data sharing, operational revisions, industry collaboration and engaging with policymakers and regulators. Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths, speaking to CAPA TV at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Asia & Sustainability Awards, stated (06-Nov-2024) Dubai International Airport can add capacity for another 15 million to 20 million passengers p/a, which will "probably see us through for the next 10 years". However, Mr Griffiths added that "we clearly need more airport capacity" to support the government's plan to double GDP by 2033. He said Dubai Airports plans to implement "innovations in terms of technology and services to make the airport seem intimate" while expanding to capacity of 260 million passengers p/a "in the ultimate phase". Mr Griffiths said Dubai International Airport will serve as "the test bed" ahead of the full application of new technology, particularly for passenger service, at Dubai World Central (Al Maktoum International Airport).
